An alien trapped forever in servitude to the machine... This is a shot I've redone recently (it's from Jan. 2014) as part of an experiment to see if the Linux program "Darktable" is a good RAW converter. The short answer is yes -- though I couldn't get the final look I wanted and finished it in Lightroom. BUT: the X-trans raw conversion was outstanding giving me a very artifact free TIF to use as a pseudo-raw into Lightroom. The secret is to do blending using the bilateral rather than gaussian methods. What that did is get rid of halos around high contrast transitions that Lightroom always gives me. The Markesteijn 3-pass algorithm is excellent when combined with that. So now, when I process the output from the raw converter those halos don't get exagerrated and require so much manual touch up.
