Patriot has begun to lift and pull at the basket (which is on its side here) as Pilot Christine blasts the twin burners to heat up the air in the balloon. It takes a full tank of fuel just to get the balloon off the ground in the first place because it is so large! I was favored with an "All Access" pass to the 2013 Chester County Balloon Festival and I had a great time. It was a big event with music, games and of course hot air balloons! I ended up hanging with the crew of "Patriot" -- the tallest flying balloon in the world today. It is an homage to the Space Shuttle program and it is in fact a huge Space Shuttle shapped balloon that is 40% larger than the actual shuttle is! I got some nice video interviews with the owner, ground crew and pilot and I'll be making a short film of it all -- but I have a lot of work to do first.
